An on-drive shot is a shot where you hit the ball on the leg side. You can play this shot when the bowler bowls a yorker or the near the leg stump, depending on the ball. The intention of this shot is to hit the ball at the right moment and send it into a gap.

Step by step technique:

Step 1:

Keep your front toe pointing towards the bowler

Step 2:

Move your body forward smoothly.

Step 3:

Move your bat towards the leg side at the right moment.

Step 4:

Look for a gap on the leg side before you hit the ball.

Step 5:

Finish the shot by hitting the ball into the gap you found.

Key Technique and Execution:

  • Head and Foot Position: Step forward towards the ball. Keep your head steady and your balance.
  • The Swing: Bring your bat down smoothly and hit the ball with the full face of the bat.
  • Contact and Follow-Through: Try to hit the ball at the right moment. After hitting it, let your bat continue swinging naturally.

My takeaway

My takeaway is that this shot needs good timing. If you time it well, the ball can go for a boundary!
