A straight drive is a shot where you hit the ball straight and along the ground. The ball should not go in the air. This is a shot where you need perfect timing and accuracy and an attacking front-foot. The ball can go past the bowler or between mid-off and mid-on.
Step by step technique:
Step 1:
Take your front foot towards the line of the ball and point your toe to the bowler.
Step 2:
Bend your front knee a little, bend body downwards and get your head over your front foot.
Step 3:
Aline your elbow and shoulder in the same line.
Step 4:
Move the bat pointing straight to the bowler.
Step 5:
Swing and touch the ball toward the ground.
Step 6:
Keep focus on the ball, make sure the ball doesn’t go in the air.
Use the steps above to finish the stroke and keep your bat pointing towards where you want the ball to go.
Key Technique:
- Stance and Head: Keep your head still and over the front foot when you hit the ball.
- Footwork: Move your front foot straight towards the line of the bowler.
- Bat Swing: Bring the bat down in a straight vertical line with a high front elbow.
- Execution: Time the ball smoothly along the ground. Don’t hit it in the air.
My takeaway:
This shot needs good timing and accuracy. I think timing is the most important thing because if you time it well, the ball can go really fast without you having to hit it super hard
Four things to remember
TIMING -> ALIGNMENT -> ACURRACY -> Execution
