Back-foot defense
A back-foot defense is a shot where you take your front foot in the same line as your back foot. This shot is a block you mostly play on the shot ball.
Step-by-step technique:
Step 1:
First take your front foot in the same line as the back foot.
Step 2:
Keep your shoulder and head in the same line.
Step 3:
Keep your bat in line with your body.
Step 4:
Finish the shot by touching the ball quickly.
Key technique fundaments
Back and across:
Push your front foot back and your back foot remains in the same place. The front foot move slightly across toward the off-stump line. This ensures your body perfectly aligns with the ball trajectory.
Head position:
Keep your head steady and focus on the ball. This makes sure you are looking at the point of impact and protects you against the ball bounce.
Bat angle and grip:
Keep the bat straight and point it towards the ground. Loosen your bottom hand slightly on impact.
Chest and stance:
As you settle into the back foot, open your chest slightly so you can track the balls bounce and adjust your hands comfortably.
My takeaway:
Back foot shot is easier than the front foot defense.
| Back foot defense | Front foot defense |
| Less precision | More precision |
| Less weight on both legs | More weight on your front leg |
| Easier than the front foot defense | Riskier than the back foot defense |
| You play this shot faster | You play this shot more slowly |
