A pull shot is a cross batted and aggressive stroke played on the back foot and the ball goes on the leg side.
The pull shot is most effective when a bowler bowls a short ball.
Step by step technique:
Step 1:
Recognize a short ball and shift your weight backward.
Step 2:
Lift your bat high and your back elbow raised.
Step 3:
Swirl the back foot getting your head and shoulder in line with the ball, extending your arms to strike the ball slightly in front of your body with the bottom hand.
Step 4:
Complete the stroke by rotating your upper body and rolling your wrists to keep the ball running along the ground or striking it into the air for a boundary.
Variations of the shot:
The standard pull – hit along the ground or into deep mid-wicket area for 1-4 runs.
The hook shot– a more riskier variation of pull shot played to a much faster and higher bouncer (around chest to eye height or above) often aimed to send the ball over the boundary for a six.
The slog pull – hitting the ball with less restraint into the stand and commonly used in limited overs like (T-20, ODI)
My Takeaway
Pull shot is one of the most effective shot that we can play on the leg- side and the pull shot can be played with risk for a boundary and with no risk to stay safe.
